MEET THE TEAM

Carey serves as Vice Chair and Secretary of the Board of Directors for Aspen Haven Foundation and is the organization’s founder. With over 20 years of experience at the intersection of behavioral health, justice, and community systems, Carey brings deep expertise in recovery support, deflection, reentry, and trauma-informed systems design.

In addition to her board role, Carey is the Senior Director for Deflection Initiatives at the Center for Health and Justice (CHJ), where she leads national technical assistance efforts supporting pre-arrest deflection, diversion, and justice-health integration across the country. Her professional background includes extensive work in rural and frontier communities, with a focus on building sustainable, community-centered responses to substance use, mental health needs, and justice involvement.

Carey holds a Master of Social Work and brings a strong commitment to governance, accountability, and long-term organizational sustainability in service of Aspen Haven Foundation’s mission.

Joey has worked in a variety of markets and served in a variety of roles. In 2014 he began operating co-living housing, and soon began providing housing to sober living organizations. In 2021, together with Luke Gregory, he established Ananeo Colorado LLC to focus specifically on reentry housing for justice involved individuals. Today the Ananeo Companies provide approx. 400 beds of transitional housing to individuals struggling with SUD, mental health, and dual diagnosis, and are also licened by the State to provide various levels of clinical and peer based services delivered in a manner designed to minimize barriers for clients. Prior to settling in Denver, Joey grew up in Washington, DC, has lived in about a dozen locations around the US and internationally, dabbled in archaeology, gold mining (unsuccessfully), mining finance, and coal and oil law. Joey loved Colorado, is an avid rock climber, and loves to travel with his wife and 3 kids whenever work allows. Joey has a JD from University of Michigan Law School, a MS in Geology from University of Michigan, and a BS in Environmental Science w/ secondary degree in Classical Civilizations from Emory University.
